2015 Deep South Golf Tournament

A total of 66 golfers arrived in Albany, Georgia with two things on their mind, golf and pork chops. Well, just the ones that had been there before were looking forward to the pork chops. The weather cooperated for the most part as we saw temperatures in the upper 70’s on Wednesday and Thursday before dropping into the 60’s on Friday. But NO rain. Scores were good on Wednesday, but when the tee boxes were moved back on Thursday, the course became more challenging. So to make up for the longer shots on Thursday, we moved everyone up a complete tee box on Friday, to everyone’s pleasure.

As the tournament drew to a close, two teams were tied at 13 under par. So that meant we had to go to a scorecard playoff. The winners, David Crowe and Matt Wright, followed by Matt Pugh and Robert Hendrix. Third place in the Championship Flight went to the team of Mike Gladson and Jerry Hall with Phil Pugh and Shane Stidham finishing fourth overall. First Flight was won by Ronnie Brown and Ronnie Younce with second place going to Robert Bouts and Paul Grider. Final money winners were brothers Paul and Jerry Smith finishing first in the Second Flight followed by Jacky Morris and Don Lee.

Every golfer went away happy with the tournament, not their scores, but the fun and fellowship. And about the pork chops, the Thursday night meal is smoked pork chops. One golfer summed it up like this, each year we look forward to the golf, the get together, and the pork chops.

We have tentatively set the dates for the Deep South 2016 for April 6-8. We are also considering the move forward to the closer tee boxes to improve playing time and scores.

Thanks to all the golfers and sponsors that made this event a success, and for their support of Master’s Men and our ministry.
